Are you looking to spruce up your home so it can become a snapshot for your upcoming holiday cards?! Now’s a great time to paint your home’s exterior. And, perhaps the best news about that painting is a way to give your home’s exterior a big boost without enduring major construction or remodeling costs—brightening up a façade with a fresh coat of paint or changing the exterior paint or trim color altogether is, after all, perhaps most inexpensive way to transform the look of your home and garner major curb appeal!

Tackling an exterior painting job is generally best left to professionals like us here at Gold Painting Inc., but if you have planning on taking on this project on your own, we’ve got several tips to share with you so can achieve exterior home painting success that will last for several years to come!

First, make sure the weather is painting perfect. This is, perhaps, the best time of year to paint, given the cooler temperatures and drier air that are generally present in New England autumns. The key to getting your paint to perform well rests on the outdoor air temperature. Cooler than 40 degrees is no good and above 90 is just as bad. Why? Because temperature has a lot to do with the exterior paint’s ability to properly dry. If it’s too hot, it could peel or bubble up. If it’s too cold, it may not go on evenly. Keep in mind, too, that you should wait until any condensation from the morning dew has evaporated off the surface you’re about to paint.

Also, be sure to scrap any peeling or loose paint from the surface prior to applying primer and paint to the exterior surface areas. What you want is bare wood—or as close to it as you can get—for areas that are in dire need of some TLC. Use sandpaper as necessary to obtain a smooth, stripped-down finish that will easily accept the primer or paint you’re about to apply.

In addition, get your home power washed prior to painting your home’s exterior. Pressure washing is a fast and cost-effective way to remove stingy dirt, mildew and other grime from your home’s exterior, and Gold Painting Inc. is here for your powerwashing, pre-painting needs! We can help you maintain your gutters, too!

Next up, be sure to caulk cracks and apply primer to areas that are bare.

Finally, it’s time to choose your paint colors and the type of paint you’ll apply. This is an involved process, so we’ll take this topic up next week.
